How strong is your foundation for success?

September 1, 2021    0 comment

Every success in life has a foundation on which it is built. Like a multi-storeyed building, the stronger the foundation, the firmer the structure will be. Let’s put this into context for this article.

I believe you who are reading this article today crave some form of success. It can be promotion at work and certainly the perks that come with it, good health, raising a good family, or if you’re an entrepreneur, you would wish to grow and pass this business unto the next generation.

Granted, but what foundation have you put in place or building on to attain these desires of life? There is no perfect formula to achieving success. The definition of success itself is equally tricky, but we can find a working definition such as “accomplishing a goal” or “meeting a need”

In August, HCI. as a company committed to the cause of Career professionals and SMEs, we dedicated our articles to help individual career professionals who are craving to succeed. As we begin the month of September, here is this article with a few ideas to help you set a foundation for the success you desire to achieve in your life.

The qualities of patience and persistence

The first black president of South African, Nelson Mandela is revered by many. His legacy lives on years after his passing on. There is little doubt that this icon of liberation had some attributes that made him successful to the extent of being revered by humanity.

He was jailed for many years but at no time did he give up the struggle. You may not be imprisoned for political reasons to exhibit resilience and persistence like Mandela did, but what is that one thing you are willing to die for? Are you ready to wait patiently and pursue that career amidst challenges until your goal is achieved? The answer to this question is a good starting point.

You need people to succeed.

To succeed in your career or enterprise, you need people in every sphere of your life. For instance, if you are an entrepreneur, you will need employees who will carry your vision to another level. You will equally need customers to keep you in business. If you are an employee, you will need an employer or mentors to mould you into an indispensable asset for your organisation. How are you building relationship and networks to succeed?

A learning mindset

The world is changing at a very unprecedented rate. The skills that enabled people to perform tasks and business models that worked yesterday are becoming outdated quickly. What that means is that you must set your mind to be trainable. Investing in acquiring new skills or models that will work in your business is not a luxury but an investment. This is an area that many career seekers fail to adapt. After graduating from higher academic institutions, learning stops for many; the majority sink into ignorance, and they turn stagnant in their careers. Are you investing in yourself to acquire new skills?

Risk-taking and sacrificing is part of the game.

What are you sacrificing or risking now for a better life in future? This August the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games got many glued excitedly to their TVs. Champions who emerged at the event were applauded both at home and at the venue, but not even one can claim that their medals were won on a silver platter. Every victory: whether in business or career, is attained through hard work, perseverance, resilience, and sacrifice. Are you ready to sacrifice to attain what you want in life? Are you prepared to offer your sleep, friends, financial or other comforts to gain what you really want?

These are basic questions to ponder on. The deep foundation you need to create for the success you are aiming to achieve in life will begin from the answers you write down.
