The Senior managers of Tropical Bank, Uganda have been trained in strategic leadership and team building skills to help the Bank maximize efficiency and achieve the institution’s goals.

The two-day training held at the Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel in Entebbe was facilitated by Mr Emmanuel Dei-Tumi, the Chief Copy writer of Human Capital International (HCI), an organisation that specialises in strategic leadership, entrepreneurship and youth development and mentorship programme among others.

“Make your junior staff feel appreciated. When your staff come and share an idea with you, do not implement it without giving them credit,” Mr Dei-Tumi said. “When a staff feels appreciated, it will increase their creativity and they will dream more” he added.

Mr Dei-Tumi has been consulted by both local and international organisations to offer tailor-made training in entrepreneurship, leadership, organisational attitudinal change and has authored various books that have changed lives. You can read more and get some of his books from this website.

Mr Dennis Kakeeto, the acting Managing Director of Tropical Bank, the organisers of the training, said they needed the retreat to reflect on the leadership and team building strategies of the Bank.

“It is always good to learn new skills and inspire teamwork among colleagues. Even as managers, we continue to learn innovative ways of leading and managing the millennials in our modern institution,” Mr Kakeeto said.

Ms Fatumah Nagawa, the Bank’s Head of Audit, said the training helped her realise areas of improvement.

“It was a very beautiful moment. It created this openness that people may not feel comfortable to talk about in office. It helped me know where I need to improve,” Ms Nagawa said.

Mr Paul Waigolo, the Head of ICT, said the training “was very objective”.

“We needed this training and I hope, it shall help us in improving our processes to performance better,” Mr Waigolo said.

For Ms Carolyn Ongom, the Head of Compliance, “the training was excellent and more interactions with the consultant should be organised,”

Mr Nurudeen Hamidu, the Tropical Bank Head Human Resource, summed up the training “very well delivered, very knowledge”.
