The idea that entrepreneurs are the catalyst for driving growth of national GDP is almost considered a universal truth; almost like scientific law. Entrepreneurial orientation is a vital pillar in the economy of any nation because of the strategic role it plays in bringing about productivity, sustainability and prosperity for all. Entrepreneurs help boost economic growth, create employment opportunity, and introduce value addition to goods and services.

To pursue and be successful in managing any enterprise however, the entrepreneur needs to have entrepreneurial mindset (EM) and entrepreneurial competence (EC). Entrepreneurial mindset refers to a certain paradigm (state of mind) which attunes human behavior towards entrepreneurial activities and outcomes.

People with entrepreneurial mindsets are often drawn to opportunities, which usually appear as problems to others. They possess innovation, and value addition mechanisms, while at the same time having the fortitude to assume associated risks and embrace the realities of change and uncertainty.

Entrepreneurship competencies (EC) on the other hand, are skills displayed in creativity, a sense of self confidence, problem-solving, the ability to mobilize and attract resources, identify opportunities, establish entrepreneurial networks and technological knowledge. To succeed as an entrepreneur in any jurisdiction, you need both attributes; entrepreneurial mindset and entrepreneurial competence.

At the 4^th edition of the Strategic Leaders’ Summit, a panel of highly experienced professionals led by the Executive Director of Enterprise Uganda, Mr. Charles Ocici, will be discussing the entrepreneurial journey in this digitally driven economy. They will outline the most significant components of the mindsets and competencies necessary to affect the performance of enterprises positively, post AfCFTA.
