Since 2019, we have embarked on a journey to tackle head-on the salient challenges facing mid-sized companies and individuals seeking to grow in their careers.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) on the continent contribute an estimated 80 per cent to Gross Domestic Product; they are the core source of jobs, investor profits, and taxes to governments.<\/p>\n

And yet, different studies have shown that most SMEs on the continent collapse before celebrating their 5th birthday.<\/p>\n

Therefore, we started the annual high-level leaders and SMEs operators meeting-the Strategic Leaders’ Summit<\/a>,<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0where we discuss SMEs’ growth, investment challenges, opportunities, and solutions to their problems.<\/p>\n

This annual event is certainly worth your time. In the last two years since it started, it has served as a powerful catalyst to align business and policy leaders, invent and innovate new strategies, and engineer collaboration among organisations.<\/p>\n

It is with this desire that, despite the challenges presented by Covid-19, we are holding the 3rd Strategic Leaders’ Summit virtually on Thursday under the theme:\u00a0Agribusiness, SMEs, and Digital Economy within AfCFTA.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here are vital notes that should inspire you to participate in this year’s Summit.<\/p>\n

Coronavirus has disrupted and led to the collapse of many businesses. We, therefore, decided to assemble an expert to help companies to navigate this disruption.<\/p>\n

A specific topic, Digital Technology in times of COVID-19 disruptions, enabling agribusinesses and SMEs to face the new imperatives, will be discussed. Mr Mounir Boukadidi, a digital technology specialist from Oracle Technology Systems, will lead this discussion.<\/p>\n

How digital tech can enable women to lead agribusinesses and SMEs in Uganda is another key topic at this year’s Summit. Ms Melisa Nyakwera, the head of Agribusiness at Stanbic Bank-Uganda, will lead discussions on this topic.<\/p>\n

Responsible businesses always pay taxes. And to succeed in business, especially under the newly launched trading treaty in Africa- AfCFTA, one must know about taxes and tariffs. A topic titled: Regional Tax and Tariff implications for agribusinesses and SMEs within AfCFTA, will be discussed by Dr Geofrey Okaka Owich, Assistant Commissioner, Customs -Uganda Revenue Authority.<\/p>\n

AgricTech versus Supply Tech. What is the productivity platform for African agribusiness from smallholder farmers? A case for an ecosystem of tech-enabled services for agribusiness. This will be presented by Charles Angebault, the Chief Executive Officer of Metajua.<\/p>\n

Employers have always complained about the quality of fresh graduates. What is the collaborative role among academia, industry, and policymakers in developing skills needed in the new digital economy? How are these skills provided?<\/p>\n

Dr Patrick Gyimah Awuah Jr, the President of Ashesi University, will lead the fireside chat on the above topic.<\/p>\n

The keynote address will be delivered by Mr Silver Ojakol, the Chief of Staff- AfCFTA Secretariat.<\/p>\n

He will specifically tackle the subject of how to harness agribusiness and SMEs’ potential and benefits in the digital economy -the role of AfCFTA.<\/p>\n
